I've been told off for not updating this blogg, so while Second Life is down, I'll do an update...

Music wise, nothing much has happened... Bought a loverly guitar (Hamer Echotone in cherry red) but am finding self learning a touch difficult.... Must sign up for some lessons soon).

Made a quick video for Virginia from some footage we shot in Australia. Very trippy, need to get it finished and added to YouTube soon. Made another video for Plastic Trash, this time for the track Tibb Street Connection. it uses some nice footage from an anti drugs film from the 60's. The footage is amazing, and fits the track perfectly. You can find it on YouTube by searching for DollyBoyFilms (can't be bothered looking for a link now...)

Most of my time has been spent playing (living?) Second Life. Got myself a really nice loft in Bruges, which is great. Got my avatar looking really good now with new skin and hair and my own dance chim... Best of all is the new pub I hang out in - The Bushy Beard! It's owned by Zeeblebob Voss who I knew from my days in the Blarney (went downhill very fast, don't go!). Zeeblebob has the most amazing presence - the room stands still when she walks in... Total sweatheart, love her to bits! There's some great characters at the Busy Beard - Artefax, Lohoha, Stilgar, Gloria, Jazz, Kevin, Kizza, Jenny, Brucie, Tony, Cynara, Petr... The list goes on!

As well as hanging out and dancing in the Bushy Beard, I've found myself DJing there now! What started as a trial on a quiet Tuesday has turned into a prime Saturday night slot! I never knew sitting playing my favourite songs would go down so well, but there you go!

Met a great group in SL too, The Rails. Really fun and energetic. Made friends with them on MySpace too. Check the out www.myspace.com/therailsdotca .

Oh here's some photos from Second Life!

(Plastique relaxing in the Bar at The Bushy Beard)

When not in Second Life, I have maily been listening to:

The Love Me Nots - In Black And White (CD)
The Rails - This Is How She Goes (CD)
The Frank Popp Ensemble - The Frank Popp Enemble (CD)

And watching:

Not much, to busy...

Till next time, take care.
Well, I've had a full week in Australia now, and what can I say? I love this country! I love the diversity of a big multicultural city like Sydney, and the friendlyness of 'The Rainbow Region' (Lismore / Byron Bay etc).

I did the touristythings in Sydney like the Aquarium and a Harbour cruise but also experienced a real friendly out of the way pub and the joy that is chinatown. lets see if I can add photos...

It's coming up to the fith week now without proper internet access and I have to confess that I'm an adict... I'm probably in cold turkey at the moment, finding new things to do with my time, but I still get this nagging urge to logg on and 'do things' (hence resorting to pay as you go dial up!).

I'm really missing Second Life - I'd just rented a nice loft style apartment and was furnishing it. Then I discovered a Trailer Park which was way cooler than my apartment. Not being online meant all these will have to wait. Bah! I just wanna sit in the Blarney and chat!

The Nina remixes are coming along. I sent a version of Yeah Yeah Yeah down and it was used as a backing track when she played at Nag Nag nag on March 28. Wish I could have been there. I've since gone back to the track and have beefed it up even more, adding new beats and doubling up the drums on the chorus so it REALLY kicks in.

But best of all, I fly off to Australia tomorrow! After all this waiting, it's finally here. To be honest, I'm absolutely brickin it! But it's a holiday I've wanted for so many years now, and it will be so nice to finally meet Virginia at last.

I'll be updating this every couple of days or so while I'm away, so check back.

Until then, see ya later.
Second Life...

Another strange week. A fellow MP3Unsigned artist, SlimGirlFat, apeared on TV's Richard & Judy this week talking about [the internet thingy] Second Life. Slimmie owns an island in SL where musicians can perform their music live. I was strangely drawn to the place, so I downloaded the program and set myself up...

It's now been about 3 or 4 days and i seem to be getting hooked! Not only do I look a damn sight better in tight leather pants in SL, I actually have a full head of hair and no belly! Hurrah! It's a strange place indeed and might adictive. I find myself in an Irish pub called The Blarney Stone chatting to people, dancing (again, something I can't do in real life), drinking Magners and listening to music. All the time feeling guilty that I really do have better things to do with my spare time...

Anyhow, the Nina Silvert CDs turned up (second time lucky), so I'll be trying to something interesting with a couple of her tracks.

Holiday plans are going great. Got me a sun hat, new manbag, loads of blank video tapes. Can't wait!

Davey

Today I have mailnly been listening to (when not in SL...)

Black Box Recorder - The Worst of
Bennet - some early CD singles
Patrick Macnee & Honor Blackman - Kinky Boots / Let's Keep it Friendly

and recently -

The Concretes - first two albums
Peter Bjorn and John - Young Folks (and various tracks)
Stuburt - Collected

Well it's been an interesting week or so.

Nina Silvert has sent me some discs so I can remix a copule of her tracks, alas Royal Mail seem to have forgotten where I live...

I met up with singer (Paul) Heaton earlier this week for a chat. It was a good meeting and we got on great. he's been playing around with some old tracks of mine, but because they were written as instrumentals, that are too busy to really work with. I'm currently rerecording Aimesque Instrumental in Acid as the original mix file was on my old PC and I can't access it. I'll now be able to rearange it to suit Paul's lyrics. Can't wait to hear what this will sound like. It's always been a favorite track that, but I wanted it to have lyrics...

I've had word from Ms Poems and we should be 'shooting our next movie' soon... Watch this space!

Today I have mainly been listening to:
The Cocteau Twins
Lloyd Cole (with and without his Commotions)
New Fast Automatic Daffodils

And watching:
Ugly Betty
Yup, I was as suprised as you are to find out I'd snatched first place in the Best Video category over at mp3unsigned. There was some tough competition this year, essecially Essence's ViralEssence - Nasty Intentions, which was really, really good. The full awards can be seen here.... Big thumbs up for all the over winners and runners up.

Cheers
Davey

Currently listening to:
Alpha - Come Fron Heaven
Let's get this thing going!

        Where to start?

Current Plastic Trash projects on the go include some tracks with Manchester based singer Heaton and the still ongoing work with Chloe Poems.

The Heaton work is still in it's early stages, so it's too early to really talk about it. I've heard a snippet of one track and I like where it's going. There are some serious problems with my backing track which need addressing, I'm sure I'll keep you updated as and when...

The 'Rent Boy Rhapsody' EP with Chloe Poems is plodding along slowly, but it's finally getting there. One track is done and dusted - The Cocktail Hour and getting some good feedback from those who have heard it. I've nearly finnished a second track 'Kinky Boy' and it's sounding good. It's taken on a dirty funky disco vibe with heaps of guitar and a big bassline. We just need to re-record the vocals ready for the final mix / mastering. The third track 'No Stranger To Sequins' is getting there. Again I need to re-record the vocals and add some sound FX. I hope to have these finished early on in the new year...

On the Dolly Boy front, I recently finished my first commission - a video for Australian singer / songwriter Virginiaflame. It was made to accompany her track 'Love Will Find U' and was made from re-edited footage from an old promotional film called 'Greenwich Village 1969' (I think...). Although it doesn't follow the theme of the song (the alarming number of youth suicides in Australia), it does match the lyrics, and tells another story. I'm really pleased with the results - and more importantly, so was Virginia!

So what next? I'm going to be doing some more video work for Chloe Poems early on in the new year - basically recording some poems at the Green Room in Manchester - like a live show, but without an audience. I'd also like to make a video for London based singer / songwriter Xanthe, who I worked with on the track Becoming Visible.

On a personal level, I'm looking forward to my first holiday in what will be 15 years! I'm going to Australia for about three weeks in April / May - and I can't wait! For the most part I will be staying with Virginia - just inland from Byron Bay NSW, but I'm also determined to 'do Sydney' and perhaps Melbourne - got some rellies there, so I'll try and sweet talk 'em! I'm sure me video camera will be getting some serious useage.

Oh, your supposed to put what music you're listening to at the bottom aren't you?

Today I have mainly been listening to:
The Sundays - Reading Writing & Arithmatic.
The Sundays - Blind
The Sundays - Static & Silence
Gene - Drawn To The Deep End.
I've decided to scrap the messageboard on this site because it wasn't really happening... But what to replace it with? How about one of those new fangled blogg type things? Hmmm. Could do.

I won't start a blogg just yet, no, I'll save that for later.

But welcome anyway, whoever you may be.
